As far as mods go, the gta v Ghost Rider Mod is at best a character skin. When you use the mod, your main character becomes ghost rider and has a biker costume with a bare skull for his head and a black biker suit. The mod is almost strictly visual. In addition to changing your appearance, there is no additional content that utilizes the character of ghost rider in terms of powers or story lines. Therefore, it works much like a “special” costume and not like a whole new way of playing the game.
Visuals: a strong skull & no flames
The most impressive feature of the mod is how well ghost rider looks. The mod models a skull-headed person wearing a black leather outfit with spikes and chains, which match many of the most common versions of ghost rider seen in comic books and movies. While the overall image is striking and helps set the right tone for the game, the mod doesn’t include the most iconic aspect of ghost rider; the flaming skull. To get the flaming skull effect, you’ll have to use another mod created by someone else along with this mod. This could give you an incomplete experience when used alone.
Very little customization & basic transformation
While the mod changes an existing biker costume in GTA 5, it didn’t replace it. As such, while your character looks somewhat like ghost rider, you’re still utilizing a modified version of an in-game costume. Unfortunately, the mod does not include a customized bike skin, therefore your motorcycle won’t be automatically transformed into some sort of demonic vehicle.
There’s also little creativity put into transforming into ghost rider. The mod includes no animations or sequences to help create a sense of drama when activating the skin. The mod works similarly to using one of the game’s cheat codes to activate an alternate appearance, which may be disappointing to those who were expecting something more cinematic.
In terms of abilities, the chains are added as a weapon to further define your character’s personality. However, there are no fire based abilities or supernatural attacks. The focus remains on how your character appears and not on adding anything to their capabilities.
Before you can unleash the flame of revenge, you’ll first need to make sure you have the base tool set up. YimMenu v2, which is used for this Ghost Rider mod, is an advanced open source mod menu that allows you to inject your own custom scripts and vehicles right into the running session of the game. If you’re new to modding, YimMenu will be the connection between the custom files made by the community and the GTA V Engine itself. Once you’ve successfully injected YimMenu into the game, you’ll then be able to start the installation process.
Step-by-Step Installation Process
Installing the Ghost Rider mod requires that you move some specific files into the hidden appdata folder on your computer where YimMenu stores all of its custom assets. Don’t worry about this because it’s quite easy to do if you follow the below steps:
- Find Your YimMenu Folder
To get started, you’ll need to find your roaming app data. To do this, you can either type in %appdata% when using the Run Command (Windows Key + R), or use your search bar (Win + G) to search for “roaming” and then select Roaming App Data. Either method will allow you to view many different types of software folders. You’ll want to scroll down through them until you locate the one titled YimMenu (YimMenuV2). Open that folder.
- Add the Hellfire Bike
You can’t be the Ghost Rider without his trademarked bike. Inside your downloaded mod files, there should be a JSON file for the bike. The name of the bike JSON file may be something like Ghost Rider Bike.json. In your YimMenu folder, inside of another folder titled saved_json_vehicles, copy and paste the vehicle JSON file into this folder.
- Add the Lua Scripts
We now need to add the scripts responsible for adding the flaming visual effects and transforming your character into the Ghost Rider. From within your YimMenu folder, go to the scripts folder. There should be two Lua scripts in your downloaded mod files: Ghost Rider Female.lua and Ghost Rider Male.lua.
Pro Tip: When updating mods it is generally easier to delete any existing script files in this folder prior to pasting new ones so as to prevent conflicts.
Copy and paste the correct script(s) into your scripts folder based off of whether you have a male or female character.
Ignite the Fire: Activating Mod Files
While all the necessary files are safely stored in their corresponding folders, you are now prepared to boot up GTA V and enter a gaming session. After entering your session and having your YimMenu open, complete the following steps to become a flaming terror:
- Load the Script
In your YimMenu overlay, click on the Lua Scripts tab. You should see your recently uploaded Ghost Rider script listed here. Click to refresh/load/reload the script so that it will activate in your current gaming session.
- Activate Ghost Rider Mode
As previously stated, this is where magic occurs. By loading the script above and pressing X on your keyboard, instantly your character will erupt in flames while being transformed into the frightening Ghost Rider.
- Summon the Bike
Now that you look like him/her/it, you’ll also need his/her/its bike. Still in your YimMenu overlay, click on the Saved Vehicles tab. Pick out the Ghost Rider Bike.json file you installed above and choose to spawn it.
A Wild Ride: The Gaming Experience
As soon as you jump onto the bike, what truly makes this mod come alive becomes apparent. However, this mod does much more than simply replace your characters skin. When riding a custom bike created by this mod, a huge amount of continuous black smoke and blazing fires trails after you as you speed across the beachside roads of Los Santos and down the highway. These visual effects are incredibly well done, creating chaos everywhere you go in Los Santos whether it be downtown or Vespucci Beach terrorizing NPCs on a flaming chopper.
